Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now known as Maureen O'Hara), would have placed her, at least in the eyes of America, into the class of child prodigies. For a child from Irish background, surrounded by talented parents and family members, these were very natural traits. Maureen was born in Ranelagh which was a suburb in Dublin in Ireland on 17 August 1920. Marguerita Lea. FitzSimons was a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share of "The Shamrock Rovers" a renowned Irish soccer team. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough athletic games as a child and excelled at sports. Her ability to perform was a perfect complement to her love of sport. This was demonstrated by her winning pretty much every Feis award for drama or performances in the theater that her nation offered. When she turned 14, the Abbey Theater accepted her and let her live her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
